A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Jasper, Canada by TravelPod blogger Gareth.alanna titled “Jasper & the Icefields Parkway” Gareth.alanna’s travel blog entry: “We arrived into Jasper with it snowing and being advised that most of the roads are likely to be closed down….hmm..looks like we might be stuck here for a little while. Woke up the next day to more snow so went back to sleep, fortunately later on the day the snow disappeared and the sun came out so we headed down to the VIC to see what there was to do in Jasper. After loading up on some brunch at the Black Sheep we went to Maligne Canyon to check out some frozen waterfalls, (these were a novelty to us) and walk along the canyon. The walk was relatively easy but we decided to go off track a little on the way back which I struggled with a bit (not very good for the Inca Trail but still have time to get fit). Alanna motored through it easily as usual. We decided to head to the Fairmont Jasper Lodge to have a look. This place is in a great location with magnificent views. We decided we had earnt one of there ‘special’ coffees before we checked out Pyramid Lake. This was completely frozen over but still worth the visit. The next day we headed to Banff through the Icefields Parkway. This drive is nothing short of spectacular. We were lucky to get perfect blue skies during most of the drive but there was still plenty of snow around and each time we stopped to take photo’s the car tyres would spin and

Lakeshorecrew’s travel blog entry: “The next stop on our schedule was Fort St. John, but since the weekend was coming up we decided to drive part of the way and to stop for the weekend in Jasper. Jasper is a community within Jasper National Park and, as such, is surrounded in every direction by wilderness and recreation opportunities. The town itself is great to explore too. After we dropped our gear at the hotel we went into Jasper to see if we could find some food. We saw a sign advertising ‘$5 burger and fries’ and figured that was the place for us. The place turned out to be the Whistle Stop Pub, and we walked right into the ‘Saturday Jam Session’. Basically, several local musicians come out and play from 3pm to 5pm. The music was great, it consisted of a bunch of guitars, a few singers, a fiddle, a bass, and a guy playing the harmonica who looked just like an old prospector. After an entertaining meal we went back to the hotel to enjoy being inside and out of a tent. Later, I rented a canoe from the front desk and explored Pyramid Lake. As I started off it was raining, but as I continued the rain stopped and the lake became nice and calm. As the clouds lifted, I enjoyed views of the mountains in every direction. Afterward, I figured that I would find Brendan and Eric in the hot tub, so I headed down

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Jasper, Canada by TravelPod blogger Crossroadcanada titled “Travelling friends” Crossroadcanada’s travel blog entry: “One of the great things about being on the road is the people we meet. Grace has already written about that in an earlier blog, but I can’t help but mention it again. When one travels, we often strike up seemingly temporary relationships that are very rich and meaningful. Although some last only for a short period of time while we are passing down the same road together, I’m sure others will continue through E-mail, and blogs etc. or sometimes even through incredible chance meetings again many months later such as happened with Bob and Barb. At any rate it is these relationships that are so cool, and such was the case again with Bev and Charlie. We had first met them way up the Dempster while watching Caribou way off in the distance with Bob and Barb. Later that afternoon we had all had a great meal together in Tombstone Territorial Park and so another relationship was begun. Except for a few other chance meetings the next day in Dawson City, we all sort of figured that was the last time we would ever see each other again. Now almost three Two thousand miles later we have met up again in Prince George. We hade sort of kept up a bit by sending each other our travel blogs. While they hade spent time driving back down the Klondike and fishing in Lake Laberge, we had taken the “Top of the World highway” to

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Jasper, Canada by TravelPod blogger Colin titled “Where the ” Colin’s travel blog entry: “Last time I was in Winnipeg and it was raining on and off. The next day it was just raining. I slept in late, much needed after two nights trying to get comfortable on the train, then went into the VIA station to buy my train tickets from Edmonton to Jasper, and Jasper to Prince Rupert. Unfortunately due it being the last day of the 60% sale there was a bit of a queue and by the time I was at the front of the queue the ticket office was closing. Fortunately they gave those of us still in the queue a voucher each which gave us another week to buy tickets at 60%. The reason the queue moved so slowly was the people who got to the counter and then figured out where they were going and when, instead of sorting that out while in the queue. I wonder if people that stupid need reminding to breathe. So I walked back to the hostel in the rain. On Saturday (no rain, sunny with blue skies) I got up early to go back to the station to buy my tickets. There was no queue at all so it was nice and quick. I even bought my ticket from Jasper to Vancouver. It was 60% off and is fully refundable and exchangeable. I wandered back to the hostel and relaxed until it was time to head back to the station to get on the train. I shared a taxi with Matt and Caitlin, it is a 20 minute walk so a taxi seemed a good idea. As I was travelling with Matt and Caitlin

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Jasper, Canada by TravelPod blogger Aussiecaitlin titled “From Banff to Jasper” Aussiecaitlin’s travel blog entry: “After our big night in Banff, 10 unsuspecting individuals boarded the mini-van only to be informed by our guide Heidi that our tour to Jasper was actually a hiking tour. None of us had actually realised how much hiking we’d be doing, but fortunately the beauty of the rockies ensured we were pleasantly surprised to be exploring it this way. Our first stop was Johnson Lake, where we introduced our motley group of 11 then hiked around the lake for about 30 minutes. Not too hard, most of us figured. This could be easier than we thought Our next stop was Lake Louise, the most photographed place in all of Canada (so we were told). This is one of those gorgeous emerald green lakes that you see on postcards. Photos can’t really do it justice as the water is truly a cloudy green colour that you never actually imagine is real. Apparently the effect comes from rock flower particles in the water which is generated from glacial erosion. See – I’m learning stuff too! Apparently Lake Louise wasn’t just about sitting around – there was also a 2.5 hour hike involved. The hike took us up to Lake Agnes and involved a 3km uphill trek in reasonably warm conditions. Fortunately, half way up there was a pretty spectacular view of Lake Louise which ensured our trip was worth it. Lake Louise isn’t the pinnacle of lakes in the
